Job Description
Process Data Analyst (Offshore Drilling Rotating Assets)
| Location | Remote Working |
| Shift | 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM IST (overlap with US time zones) |
| Experience | 5 to 8 years (flexible for exceptional candidates) |
| Reports to | Head of Remote Diagnostics |
Role Summary
We are looking for an experienced analyst to monitor the health and performance of rotating equipment on offshore drill ships, with process and operational data as the primary source of insight. You will analyze historian and SCADA data (temperatures, pressures, flows, speeds, torque, motor current, power, lube oil and hydraulic parameters) to detect abnormal behavior, performance degradation, and developing faults before they cause unplanned downtime. Vibration data is a supporting input that you will use to confirm and refine diagnoses. You will work closely with US-based stakeholders, hence the overlap shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze process and operational data from drill ship rotating assets daily, using historian trends, dashboards, and analytical tools.
- Detect early deviations in process data to predict the potential faults in the equipment or system.
- Compare actual behaviour against baselines, OEM curves, and operating envelopes.
- Build and maintain asset health baselines, normal operating models, and alarm thresholds, accounting for operating modes (drilling, tripping, DP, transit, standby).
- Separate real faults from operational effects by correlating multiple parameters across time, load, and environmental conditions (sea state, ambient temperature, seawater temperature).
- Identify sensor and data quality problems (drift, flatlines, spikes, wrong scaling) and flag them to the client or data team.
- Develop and tune rules, multivariate models, and anomaly detection logic, working with the data science team where needed.
- Review vibration data (overall levels, spectra, trends) to validate process-based findings and pinpoint fault type.
- Produce fault and anomaly reports with severity, probable cause, supporting evidence, recommended action, and urgency.
- Escalate critical issues promptly to offshore maintenance teams, rig management, and onshore reliability engineers.
- Support onboarding of new assets, tags, and data sources.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, Instrumentation, or Chemical/Process Engineering (or equivalent).
- 5+ years in process data analysis of rotating equipment on offshore drilling units or drill ships.
- Proven experience analyzing large time-series datasets from historians or SCADA (e.g., OSIsoft/AVEVA PI, Wonderware, Ignition) and drawing diagnostic conclusions.
- Excellent written and spoken English, with the ability to write clear, concise diagnostic reports.
